Disordered eating

Starts: 19:00 On 22 May 2024 | Ends: 21:00 On 22 May 2024

Secretive eating, emotional eating, food obsession and unhelpful thinking will all be explored during this workshop, and we will examine how disordered eating can spiral into eating disorders such as ARFID, anorexia, bulimia and binge eating and explore the long-term risks and support available. This evening presentation is created and presented by industry professionals including Wellspring Counselling, Somerset & Wessex Eating Disorders Association and the STEPs Eating Disorder service.

Many of us struggle with a disordered relationship with food and would benefit from more mindfulness and self-compassion regarding our dietary choices. This evening presentation, designed and delivered by industry professionals from Wellspring Counselling, Somerset & Wessex Eating Disorders Association, and the STEPs Eating Disorder service, aims to shed light on common challenges such as secretive eating, emotional eating, food obsession, and unhelpful thinking patterns. We will delve into the complexities of disordered eating behaviours and their potential progression into eating disorders such as ARFID, anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating. Moreover, we will explore the long-term risks associated with these disorders and the support resources available for individuals seeking help.

Key Topics Include:

  1. Understanding Disordered Eating: Gain insights into the spectrum of disordered eating behaviours and their impact on physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing.
  2. Exploring Mindful Eating: Learn strategies for cultivating mindfulness and self-compassion in relation to food choices, mealtime habits, and body awareness.
  3. Unpacking Emotional Eating: Explore the connection between emotions, stress, and eating behaviours, and discover healthier ways to cope with emotional triggers.
  4. Breaking Free from Food Obsession: Examine the cycle of food obsession and compulsive behaviours and identify practical techniques for promoting balance and moderation.
  5. Recognising Eating Disorders: Enhance your awareness of the signs and symptoms of various eating disorders, and understand the importance of early intervention and treatment.
  6. Long-Term Risks and Support: Discuss the potential consequences of untreated eating disorders and discover the range of support services available for individuals and families affected by these conditions.
