Chronic pain is persistent pain that lasts for more than 3-6 months, defying attempts to cure it and remaining unpredictable, confusing and uncontrollable. The experience has a significant effect on the person and their family and may disrupt thinking, feelings and behaviour. This afternoon will delve into the multifaceted nature of chronic pain, addressing its impact from both physical and mental health perspectives. Moreover, we will explore the intersection between trauma, chronic pain, and disability, offering insights into effective strategies for coping and resilience.

Key Session Topics Include:

  1. Understanding Chronic Pain: Gain a comprehensive understanding of chronic pain, its definition, causes, and mechanisms, and explore the challenges it presents for individuals and their loved ones.
  2. Physical Health Perspectives: Learn from specialists at Sirona Physiotherapy about evidence-based approaches to managing chronic pain, including physiotherapy techniques, pain management strategies, and lifestyle modifications.
  3. Mental Health Perspectives: Explore the psychological impact of chronic pain with experts from NHS Talking Therapies, and discover therapeutic interventions for addressing the emotional and cognitive aspects of pain.
  4. Trauma and Chronic Pain: Examine the relationship between trauma, chronic pain, and disability, and understand how past experiences can influence pain perception and coping mechanisms.
