World Parkinson's Month Event

A local Parkinson's UK support group meets regularly at the Windmill on Nore Road. If Parkinson's is affecting you, why not go along and enjoy games and generally socialise with people who understand this condition. There are talks and singing too, at other venues. This month the games group meets from 1.15 to 4pm

Led by Dublin-born singer and bassist, Eric Mylod-Okafo, The Soul Strutters are a high-octane supercharged 4-piece band who are one of the most sought-after jazz/soul/funk/R&B bands in the South West. Eric’s vocals are like pure honey. They play with passion and infectious energy, bringing their own unique sound to those classic and rare grooves.
Their repertoire includes music by the likes of Curtis Mayfield, Jamiroquai, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and Bill Withers.
Joining Eric are Jack Baldus on keys and vocals (Laid Blak, The Sugarhill Gang, Haggis Horns, Omar, Pee Wee Ellis); James Arbery on guitar; and Barney Sage on drums.
They recently headlined Swindon Jazz & Soul Festival and are at home on the biggest stages, including WOMAD.

Portishead Carnival Parade

The parade is the main attraction and tradition of Portishead Carnival.
The parade starts from the Lake Grounds at midday and consists of small / large groups of walkers, fabulous creative floats and amazing performances, it finishes at the show field about 2.5 hours later, where the carnival celebrations continue.
Note that roads will be closed while the procession goes from the Lake Grounds to the show field. Roads affected are Lake Road, Rodmore Road, Battery Road, Cabstand, High Street, the one-way system by Gordano School, and Clevedon Road as far as the Show Field. Clapton Lane will also be affected.

SUMMER CONCERT

Portishead Youth Choirs, formed in 2022 and led by Katherine Everett, have become a vibrant part of the local music scene, helping young singers develop confidence, musicianship and vocal technique in a fun and supportive environment.
The choirs will perform at the Friends of St Michael’s Summer Concert. The annual event raises funds to support the preservation of the historic church for community use.
Tickets are £10, including wine and nibbles. Parking is available at Clapton Court.

Linda Hodgetts will open her St Peter’s Road garden for charity on 27 June, 11am-3pm, raising funds for Mary’s Meals.
The charity provides school meals for children living in the world’s poorest communities, bringing hungry children into the classroom, where they can gain an education and better opportunities for the future. The local group supports a school in Malawi.
Entry is £5, including tea or coffee and cake.
