A real treat for music lovers when singing sensation John Prescott returns to the Kicker (Black Horse), Clapton in Gordano for a Sunday afternoon of live music from 2.30pm. 

Singing a variety of classic favourites from the 60s, 70s and 80s, along with some musical theatre songs, John has gained a reputation as one of the most exciting versatile jazz singers to emerge in the South West in recent years. His smooth vocals encompass a wide repertoire from the great American songbook, with influences from artists such as Frank Sinatra and more recently, Michael Bublé and Robbie Williams. 

With his blend of indie pop and acoustic folk vibes, Bean effortlessly creates an intimate and inviting atmosphere for listeners to immerse themselves in. You’ll find him at The Siren’s Calling on Portishead marina from 4.30pm.

A monthly coffee morning with a creative twist. I will use prompts to help you self-reflect and create your own poems and stories. In the break there is plenty of time to chat over coffee and cake. No one is ever asked to read aloud their work and no writing experience is necessary. Sessions are £12 and need to be booked ahead, so please email to reserve a space.

Tonight, we have the delicious, sensual and sizzling hot rhythms of the Salsa and Rumba, mixed with African beats on congas and percussion, which hails the authentic Cuban sound. The roots of Cuban African music lie in the ‘Cabildo’, self-organised social clubs for African slaves which mixed Spanish influences with the original African drumming of call and response. The result is hot, passionate, rhythms to lift your soul and touch your spirit.

Jim Blomfield, aka ‘El Gringo’, is a formidable contemporary jazz pianist who is also well known as one of the finest Salsa pianists in the UK, and appears in many Latin ensembles. He has worked alongside the legendary Roberta Pla at London’s Pizza Express, Soho. Jim  has a heartfelt insight into the rhythms, energy and language of Latin music.

For Havana-born trumpeter and trombonist Michel Padron, Cuban music is his birthright, and he toured the USA and Europe extensively before he came to the UK, and the pairing of Padron and ‘Gringo’ was inevitable. The music they make is totally  irresistible.

Be prepared for a night of genuine Cuban heat!

Don’t miss a great night of good old rock when Michael Sheppard Palomares and his band The Sirens take centre stage at the Phoenix Bar in Victoria Square, just off the High Street from 8pm.

This high-energy tribute to Britpop and the 90s will be playing live from 8.30pm at The Siren’s Calling on Portishead marina.

What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than listening to live music in the sunshine? Rhiannon will be performing in the garden at the Black Horse in Clapton in Gordano from 2.30pm delivering a while host of classic covers for everyone to sing along to.

Demonstrator Germaine Smith makes a welcome return to Portishead Floral Art Society as they celebrate their move to a new meeting venue, Clarence House in Portishead High Street.

Germaine’s demonstration, ‘Wood ‘n’ Things’ will see her combine the beauty of dried bark and branches with autumn flowers to create sculptural and colourful displays.

Witty and informative, Germaine has been entertaining those interested in floral art since she passed her demonstrators test back in the 1980s; she is also a judge, speaker and teacher.

The demonstration starts at 7.30pm. Visitors are very welcome with admission at £7.50.

If you are over 65, please join us in our Community Conversation with representatives from Portishead and North Somerset Town Council to discuss: Flooding and the risks, Street Cleansing and furniture, Dogs and their waste. 

A talk given by Brian Arman and organised by the WC&P Railway Group about the Great Western Railway Swindon Works. This is part three of a series but will be worth seeing even if you haven't see the previous ones. Refreshments available. The Group's range of books, maps, cards etc will be available to purchase.

The Terraplanes, a band at the very heart of the British blues scene will be playing at The Siren’s Calling on Portishead marina from 8.30pm.

Dynamic duo Roger and Steve from Jackson Station perform outside at the Kicker in Clapton in Gordano from 2.30pm, delivering their popular eclectic mix of rockabilly, Americana and blues.

Join in the fun at The Windmill Inn on Thursday 25th September 7pm. Paint a beautiful Portishead sunset with local artist Tracie Fry.

A mixed-terrain 10km run starts at Portishead Lake Grounds, proceeds along the coast path to Clevedon, finishing on the Esplanade.
