Portishead Chess Club Juniors

We run a thriving junior only chess club on Friday evenings from 6-7pm where we have at least 30 children all playing chess and making new friends. From 7 pm - 9.15 pm as the sun goes down the club becomes an over 14 plus adult club.

We have three dedicated English Chess Federation coaches, and our club is only one of a handful to have been awarded the ECF Junior development pathway.  

In addition to training children to play, we also give them encouragement and opportunities to enter face to face tournaments.  We have successfully run four Portishead junior rapid play tournaments and at the most recent one on 3rd May we had over 100 children take part from all over the South West of England.  Our juniors regularly play for the Somerset County Junior squad.

Portishead Chess Club has introduced chess clubs to all of the primary schools in the area too.

Our adult club is thriving too, and we now have 3 teams in the Bristol League. In addition to league chess and regular club nights we run sunset chess on a monthly basis at the Windmill, and brunch chess at Aqua on the marina.
