Help The Portishead Summer Show

This much-loved tradition needs the community’s support

For more than 160 years, the Portishead Summer Show has been bringing people together for a very special weekend. A celebration of our community, our local talent, our businesses and of course, it’s a great day out for all ages, but while it may have welcomed record crowds this year, organisers have confirmed the event has not covered costs.

Rising costs, reduced sponsorship and increasing legal requirements mean the much-loved community event is facing a growing financial challenge.

The show costs more than £35,000 a year to stage and relies heavily on sponsorship, patrons, local businesses and volunteers.

Organiser Linda Hodgetts said sponsorship was “significantly down” this year, despite the show being a “tremendous success”.

Now, organisers are appealing to the Portishead community to help secure the show’s future.
In support, funeral directors that have been serving the Portishead community for more than 140 years - F H Halliday & Son - has just become a business patron of the event.

Organisers are now appealing for the support of more local businesses and organisations for the 2027 show. Packages range from business patrons through to bronze, silver and gold sponsorship packages starting from as little as £50.
