Book helps adults’ late autism discovery

02 November 2025

Dr Angela Kingdon, Author of Am I Actually Autistic?

Portishead author Dr Angela Kingdon has just released her new book Am I Actually Autistic? - a guide for adults coming to terms with discovering their autism later in life.

Drawing from her own experience as a late-diagnosed Autistic woman, Dr Kingdon explores the emotional process she calls “identity shock”— the mix of grief, relief and clarity that often follows recognition. The book offers practical ways to navigate that transition while rejecting stereotypes and clinical gatekeeping.

Dr Kingdon is also the host of The Autistic Culture Podcast and founder of the Autistic Culture Institute, through which she advocates for a cultural, rather than purely medical, understanding of autism.

She describes the project as “a companion for anyone realising they’ve been Autistic all along - and finally have the language for it.”

The book is available on Amazon and free to paid subscribers at AutisticCulture.substack.com
